Zanussi Washing Machine Leaking Water – Causes and Solutions

Issue

If your Zanussi washing machine is leaking water, you may find water underneath the appliance, around the door, or coming from the detergent drawer.

This is usually caused by a loose hose connection, too much detergent, a blocked detergent drawer, an overloaded drum, or a damaged door seal. In many cases, the problem can be fixed without a service visit.

Typical signs

  • Water underneath the washing machine
  • Water leaking from the detergent drawer
  • Water around the door
  • Small puddles during or after a programme
  • Dampness around the appliance

Applies to

  • Zanussi washing machines
  • Zanussi washer dryers

Resolution

Start by checking the most common causes of the problem. Many leaks can be resolved with a few simple checks.

1. Check the water inlet hose

  1. Turn off the water supply.
  2. Check the hose for cracks or damage.
  3. Make sure the connections are secure.
  4. Check that the rubber seal inside the hose connection is present and undamaged.
  5. Tighten connections by hand only.

Replace the hose if it is damaged. You can buy a new hose on our Webshop.

2. Avoid overloading the drum

Too much laundry can prevent the door from sealing properly.

  1. Remove some items if the drum is overloaded.
  2. Check for clothing trapped between the door seal and the glass.
  3. Run another cycle with a smaller load.

3. Check the drain filter (if available)

  1. Open the filter access panel.
  2. Make sure the filter is fitted correctly.
  3. Tighten it securely by hand.
  4. Check for water around the filter area.

4. Use the correct amount of detergent

Too much detergent can create excess foam and cause leaks.

  1. Follow the dosage instructions on the detergent packaging.
  2. Use detergent suitable for washing machines.
  3. Reduce the amount if too much foam is visible.

If using detergent capsules or pods, place them directly in the drum unless your appliance has a dedicated compartment.

5. Clean the detergent drawer

A blocked drawer can cause water to overflow.

  1. Remove the drawer.
  2. Wash away detergent residue and limescale.
  3. Refit the drawer correctly.

6. Check the door seal

  1. Open the door.
  2. Look for tears, holes, or cracks in the seal.
  3. Remove any trapped objects.

If the seal is damaged, it will need to be replaced by a service engineer. Do not use the appliance until it has been repaired.

Important

  • Disconnect the appliance from the power supply before carrying out checks.
  • Turn off the water supply before inspecting hoses.
  • Do not use the appliance if water is leaking from a damaged door seal.
  • Fix leaks as soon as possible to avoid damage to flooring or cabinets.

When Is It a Genuine Fault?

The problem may be caused by a fault if:

  • Hoses and connections are in good condition.
  • The filter is fitted correctly.
  • The detergent drawer is clean.
  • The appliance continues to leak after completing the recommended checks.
  • Water appears to be leaking from inside the appliance.

In these cases, there may be a fault with an internal hose, valve, pump, or another component.
