Washing machine stops in the middle of a cycle
Issue
- The washing machine suddenly stops working in the middle of a cycle
- The washing machine is stuck mid-cycle
Applies to
- Washing machine
- Washer dryer
Resolution
If the washing machine suddenly stops working in the middle of a cycle and does not display an error code, this could be due to an imbalanced load, a problem with the water supply, or the drains.
1. Check for Imbalanced Load
One of the most frequent reasons a washing machine gets stuck is an imbalanced load. If the clothes inside the drum are not evenly distributed, the machine may struggle to spin properly, causing it to halt mid-cycle.
Open the washing machine door and redistribute the clothes evenly around the drum. Avoid overloading the machine, as this can lead to imbalance issues.
2. Check the Drain Pump
Turn off the washing machine and unplug it. Locate the drain pump and check for any blockages. Remove any debris or objects that may be obstructing the pump. For further troubleshooting, refer to the article:

3. Check the water supply
Ensure that the water supply valves are fully open and the water pressure is adequate. Check the inlet hoses for any kinks or blockages.

4. Reset the Appliance
Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve the issue. Turn off the washing machine and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can help reset the machine's internal electronics.
